Rabbit R1

The technology on the new Rabbit R1 seems to be incredible. If you watch the are companies announcement, it really seems to have some groundbreaking features. I agree that somehow this could’ve possibly been made into an app instead of creating a completely separate device that we need to carry around. However, the idea of having a device that completely walks through all the steps needed to be a true virtual assistant, if it actually works, is groundbreaking.

All that being said, I do have some security concerns regarding this device. I believe that even though it could be a very useful personal assistant, that there is a chance that this device could be used as a remote monitoring, or as a recording device. When used in the home I don’t believe it’s much of a security concern. However, in corporate America, when it comes to operating on a day-to-day basis, there is a chance that somebody could use this in a way that could expose sensitive corporate data in a way that could harm their company.

It could even be that they person would not even be aware that they were doing this. The problem with that is that many times young employees look for the shortest path to complete a task. Unfortunately, many times these can expose corporate data in a way that is unprotected. When these trade, secrets or business plans are exposed, it can give an unfair advantage to competitors. It is possible that this information can even give the average consumer a bad taste in their mouth. Many times people don’t consider the fact that a business needs to make money. Most people even when they know businesses need to make money only think about what the company or product does for them.

Now, I do agree that businesses should not overly charge a consumer. However, there is a time where the business must make a profit so that they can continue to pay the employees while expanding their footprint in the marketplace. There must be a balance in this, but even while they work on finding this balance. We as end-users must be aware that different technologies that we use could negatively affect our employer. Our duty as a good employee and member of society is to protect corporate data so that we don’t on wittingly or unknowingly harm the hand that feeds us.

This new product is incredible and I really hope that it really is the groundbreaking technology that it appears to be. I also hope that they’ve taken the steps needed to help protect personal data. Making a way for people to keep their data, anonymous and not exposing personal identifiers when it is not needed.
